Joy Altman is an incredibly talented singer, actress and tribute artist. She has starred in
Off Broadway productions, regionally and nationally, and has a wealth of performing
experience headlining bands & shows for hotels, arenas, casinos, cruise ships, country
clubs, and making guest appearances for private and public events.
Joy was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island. Discovered by a professional
jingle writer/ composer at age 9, she worked and performed in the studio, recording
voice-overs, portraying characters and singing jingles for educational series, TV, and
radio spots. Joy went on to study acting at AADA, and movement at AMS in New York
City. Over the years she continued fronting, lead singing and headlining shows locally
and nationally for various bands & production companies in New York, such as Steven
Scott Orchestras, Hank Lane Music, & Sy Laskin Orchestras, and eventually, after
moving to Florida, with such band companies as Big Beat Productions & Chase Music,
while still continuing to earn and perform character roles in live musical theater
productions. Some of her credits include playing two of her favorite lead roles, her
dream role of “Rose” in the musical GYPSY with music by Jule Styne, and the role of
“Joanne” in the Stephen Sondheim musical COMPANY.
With her more than two decades of live performing experience, Joy Altman is a
dynamic, seasoned performer. In addition to showcasing colorful tones, long languorous
notes, emotional expressiveness, and delicate phrasing, Joy also embodies great
comedic timing, character creation, story- telling, and strong acting abilities. Her
theatrical experience blends together perfectly with her incomparable vocal talents,
skills and ability, allowing Joy to brilliantly re-create the characters made famous by
Barbra Streisand in her film and stage career.

In 1954, Terry at age 16 recorded with a Baltimore group called THE WHISPERS, not The Whispers of the 1960’s, on Gotham Records in Philadelphia. He wrote, arranged and sang lead on “Are You Sorry” and “Fool Heart”, released in 1955. He brought that sound and talent to The Flamingos in 1956 with his first arrangement of music and vocals on “The Ladder of Love” and continued with writing and arranging, “Lovers Never Say Goodbye”, “Mio Amore”, “At The Prom”, “Heavenly Angel”, “You, Me and the Sea” and others, and also with his unforgettably beautiful production and arrangement of “I Only Have Eyes For You”. After The Flamingos, Terry formed his own group called Terry Johnson & The Modern Flamingos. |
